The Sovereign Web Manifesto

We built Synap because we believe the way we use software is broken. Not the interfaces. Not the features. The model itself.
01

You don't own your digital life

Your notes live in Notion's cloud. Your tasks live in Linear's database. Your files live in Google's infrastructure. Your conversations live in Slack's servers. Every tool you use holds a piece of you hostage behind a subscription and a proprietary format.

You are a tenant in your own digital life.

02

AI should explain, not just execute

The current wave of AI integration follows a dangerous pattern: give the model access to everything, let it act autonomously, hope it gets it right. This is not intelligence. This is abdication.

Real intelligence shows its work. It proposes changes with reasoning traces. It waits for your judgment. It treats your approval as sacred, not optional. An AI that cannot explain itself is an AI you cannot trust.

03

Tools should bend to you

Every productivity tool ships with opinions about how you should work. Notion thinks in pages. Linear thinks in issues. Obsidian thinks in files. You're forced to translate your thinking into their structure.

We believe the opposite. Your workspace should be a lens — a perspective on your data that shifts when your context shifts. The same information, viewed as a kanban board in the morning and a knowledge graph in the afternoon. Not because the data changed, but because you did.

04

Infrastructure is freedom

Sovereignty isn't a feature you toggle on. It's an architectural decision that permeates everything. When your database is a real PostgreSQL instance on a real server, portability isn't a promise — it's a given. When your files are in S3-compatible storage, migration is a copy command. When your identity runs on open standards, lock-in is impossible.

We don't make it hard to leave. We make it unnecessary.

05

One platform, not ten subscriptions

The SaaS model turned software into rent. You pay monthly for notes, monthly for tasks, monthly for files, monthly for AI. Each tool is a walled garden that doesn't talk to the others.

Synap is a different bet. One infrastructure that runs everything. Install a CRM, a project manager, a knowledge base — as packages on your own pod. Same data model. Same AI. Same workspace. Your subscription pays for infrastructure, not for features someone else decided you need.

06

The future is personal servers

We're building toward a world where every person and every team has their own server. Not a cloud folder. Not a managed account. A real, complete server that runs their digital life.

The browser becomes the interface. The pod becomes the platform. AI becomes the operator. And you become the owner — not of an account, but of your entire digital existence.

That's the sovereign web. That's what we're building.
