Relay Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 18, 2026

1. Overview

Relay is a relationship intelligence app built on Synap's Data Pod architecture. Unlike traditional apps, your data is stored exclusively on your personal Data Pod — a private server you control. Synap's servers do not store or have access to your contacts, messages, or relationship data.

2. Data We Collect

On your Data Pod (under your control)

  • Contact information you import (name, email, phone, social handles)
  • Telegram message history (only if you explicitly connect Telegram)
  • LinkedIn profile data (only if you explicitly connect LinkedIn)
  • Phone contacts (only if you grant permission in the app)
  • Interaction notes and AI-generated summaries
  • Campaign and pipeline data you create

On Synap's Control Plane servers

  • Your account email address and name
  • Pod URL and subscription status
  • Authentication tokens (session management only)

Device permissions we request

  • Contacts — to import selected phone contacts into your Data Pod. Relay does not import contacts until you start an import.
  • Camera & Photo Library — to set contact photos, stored on your Pod only.
  • Microphone — for optional voice capture and transcription that you start.

3. How Your Data Is Stored

All relationship data, messages, contacts, and AI summaries are stored in a PostgreSQL database on your Data Pod. Your Pod is a dedicated server (Hetzner EU by default, GDPR-compliant) that only you can access. Synap does not have standing access to your Pod's database.

Data in transit between the Relay app and your Pod is encrypted with TLS. Data at rest on your Pod uses the encryption settings configured in your Pod's environment.

4. Third-Party Services

  • Expo / React Native — app runtime framework. May collect crash reports and performance metrics per their privacy policy.
  • Nango (optional) — OAuth connector service used when linking Telegram or LinkedIn. Nango handles OAuth token exchange; we store the resulting access token on your Pod only.
  • Hetzner / OVH (infrastructure) — cloud providers hosting your Data Pod. Subject to their data processing agreements.

5. AI Features

AI features (contact enrichment, relationship summaries, reconnection nudges) are powered by language models via OpenRouter. Prompts sent to AI providers can include the contact details needed for the feature. Before using a provider, review the provider and model terms that apply to your selected configuration.

6. Your Rights

  • Access — export all your data from your Pod at any time via the Browser app.
  • Deletion — delete individual contacts in Relay, delete a Pod from your account, or initiate an account-deletion request at synap.live/delete-account.
  • Portability — your Pod can be migrated to self-hosting at any time.
  • Revoke connector access — disconnect Telegram, LinkedIn, or phone contacts in the Relay settings at any time.

If you are in the EEA, UK, or California, you have additional rights under GDPR, UK GDPR, or CCPA respectively. Contact us at privacy@synap.live to exercise these rights.

7. Data Retention

Deleting a Pod starts its deprovisioning and permanent data removal; do not rely on a recovery window after confirming this action. An account-deletion request is handled separately so we can close billing, complete Pod deletion, and retain only records required by law. We will confirm completion by email.

8. Children

Relay is not directed at children under 13 (or 16 in the EEA). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us at privacy@synap.live.

9. Changes to This Policy

We will notify you of material changes to this policy via email or in-app notification at least 30 days before the changes take effect.
